February 2020 Newsletter

Hello Friends,

I hope everyone's 2020 is off to a great start. We here at YIA seem to start our New Year on February 1st once the dust settles from the madness of the annual enrollment period.  Now we can start planning for next season. We are revising some of the business processes and looking to provide more value to you.  We are looking for positive and negative reviews of our services so we can serve you better. Thank you ahead of time for your input.

Survey Says- We always appreciate your feedback on how we can continue to improve in fulfilling your needs. Please take a moment to fill out this survey to help us understand what we could be doing in providing excellent service and products.

What do the professionals do?

Many of you have heard the story of my ingesting the yellow jacket at the lake a few summers ago.  If not the short version is: I was enjoying a beer at the lake on a hot summer’s day. A yellow jacket flew into my beer without my noticing and as I took a sip a bee stung the inside of my mouth.  While I am not allergic, I did have a localized reaction and my mouth and throat started to swell. I raced to the emergency room and was immediately administered steroids. Forty-five minutes later and a $2700 bill, I was left to return to my family at the lake.  My health insurance at the time had a $6700 deductible. I would have been out of luck and paid the bill, but I had an accident plan. A plan which pays the deductible for accidents which in my case was $2700. We are always asked what we do as industry insiders for our own families and I wanted to share this example to inform you that such plans exist.  Let us know if you would like to explore options that could cover those high deductibles.

Medicare- The market is adjusting to Medigap Plan F leaving the market for new Medicare beneficiaries. Due to the change, you may be receiving a different rate increase to your current plan. If you receive a high rate increase, let us know and we will be able to discuss any options you may have. Many times the decision is to stay where you are but if you would like to talk about changing you must be healthy to go through underwriting with a different carrier.  There is no risk in applying and you may even be able to add a fitness benefit like Silver Sneakers. Let us know and we can schedule a call to discuss further.

Dental-  With the family of 5  we are at either a dentist or orthodontist on a monthly basis.  I am always polling the dental staff if there is any good individual dental insurance.  Usually, the answer is "not really" but lately the feedback has been more positive on individual plans. If your dentist is in the network, you may be able to see some significant savings compared to paying cash.  It is complex, so we rather speak to you on the phone and tailor a plan to your individual needs.

Super Bowl-  I don’t know if this is my favorite commercial from the big game but this by far was the most touching:  Help me Remember.  With so many of our clients affected by memory loss, I thought that I would share as a reminder that we all have a common goal when we get older and that is to reflect back fondly on our life.

This month's Riddle-  Remember we donate $150 to your charity of choice to the first person to answer the riddle correctly, by sending the correct answer to robyn@yiadvocates.com.
