April 2019 Updates

Hello Friends,
I hope everyone is surviving the April pollen. We have been busy with staff changes and moving offices but our dedication to providing excellent service and up to date insurance news has remained the same. As always thank you for allowing us to be Your Insurance Advocates.

Medicare
We are in the last year of a few key features or parts of Medicare.

Is Medicare Plan F going away?
Medicare Supplemental Plan F will no longer be marketed in 2020 for new Medicare beneficiaries.  This is important as the younger Medicare beneficiaries under the age of 65 on or after 01/01/2020 will no longer be allowed to purchase plan F.  Without new healthy people, you would expect prices to increase, but we can’t say for sure. Only time will tell what the markets does and we may see a thriving market for the existing Medicare members.

What will happen to the Donut Hole?
In addition, this the last year for the Donut Hole or Coverage Gap. Obamacare phased out the donut hole and it should end later this year  I haven’t seen any plan options yet, but am interested to see how our clients will fare with the new plan designs and different coverage options next year.  Needless to say this fall we will be very busy.

Dental Insurance
We have been getting more and more requests for dental and have a couple of recommended plan options based on your needs and if your dentist is in the network.

Short term coverage
As many of you know my family and I are trying short term coverage this year for our health insurance needs. Short Term is like stop loss for catastrophic medical events.  Thankfully, we are typically very healthy minus the usual colds, flu, earaches, etc. We do not generally need insurance to cover these types of events for us but we do want insurance to cover major conditions. We pay much less than typical compliant coverage and if a major medical event happens we can go back to the compliant plans next year. I don’t think the market can take this strategy for long but right now if you are healthy, this can be a big win in the savings game of protecting your family from medical expenses in either premium or claims.

Life insurance
Most of you know from working with us over the years that we are not the typical pushy insurance agents that try to maximize each sale with multiple products and sometimes it is to a fault. My promise to you all is to make sure you know what we can do for you and the protection of your family. We have many options in the life insurance market that spans from no required medical test to fully underwritten policies that can go up to 10’s of millions of dollars in coverage. My advice is to consider the importance of what it means to be covered, especially if your family depends on your income. Let us know if you are in need of coverage.

On a Personal Note
One year ago the YIA family was rocked to its core by the passing of a wonderful friend and Jessica’s brother Carlos Giron.  He was one of the first people I met when moving to Atlanta from South Georgia in middle school. We both had a crush on the same girl and me being a few years younger he had to be nice to me. That was the start of a friendship that lasted over 20 years and he was like a member of the family.  We will be closed on Monday, April 15th as we are attending a second line celebration in his honor in New Orleans. As always we want to thank you for allowing us to be Your Insurance Advocates!
